5 Internet Marketing Tips for Newbies

Although there are over 100 ways to market your business on the internet, some methods will get you a lot more traffic than others.

Unlike the offline world, where advertising is very effective, content rules the internet. You’ll develop a more effective marketing campaign when you focus on strategies centered around developing content for your site.

Below are some of my most effective ways to market online, and I do it all for free.

1. Search Engines

Before you even develop your website, the first thing you should do is focus on the search engines. Organic, i.e. free search engine listings that are highly ranked, will get you far more traffic than using any kind of advertising.

The most important thing you should do here is find the right keywords. You can do this by using any of the pay per click search tools. You can also download a free tool like Good Keywords, http://www.goodkeywords.com

2. Articles

Writing articles not only allows you to brand yourself as an expert, it helps you to create original content for your website. The more quality content pages you have in your site, the higher it will rank in the search engines, and you will also create a viral marketing strategy for your business.

3. Press Releases

Press releases are news. Just like the offline world, where press releases are more effective than advertising, so too are they more effective online.

You should remember to focus on news about your business. Don’t make your release a glorified sales letter. It will get rejected.

A simple search for press release writing will help you find resources to help you write an effective press release.

Press releases, like articles, are spider, or search engine food. The search engines love them, and a good release can be very viral.

4. Blogs/RSS

Blogging is the latest craze online. It’s a very effective way to promote your business not only because of RSS, but because you can quickly and easily create content without knowing HTML, and with trackback, it has its own built in link building strategy.

RSS is nothing more than a very search engine friendly code that allows you to syndicate your content to other websites, or to be read in RSS readers.

With trackbacks, you can link back to other sites and build your links. This raises your search engine rankings.

5. Free reports

Free reports, like blogs, articles, and press releases, not only allow you to build a content strategy for your website, but you will also create a viral marketing strategy for your site.

A viral marketing strategy is very important because it’s mainly passive. If you create good content, your content will be recommended by others. One person reads your content and recommends it to someone else, and before you know it, your content is all over the internet. The more entries you have in the search engines, the more likely you are to be found by your potential customers.

The point is, if you develop an effective content and search engine strategy for your business, you will get your message out a lot faster. Potential customers will find you, and they’ll be eager for what you sell because they were already looking for you.

Internet Marketing Two Secrets to Online Success

Everybody says ‘follow these steps to achieve success’ or ’secrets2success
with one time fee’ or something like this. They will give you a
long list of steps or secrets… what ever you like to call them.

Did you write down that long list of strategies on paper at any time?

Like Number 1 strategy for success…

Number 2 strategy for success…

Number 3 strategy for success…

If there is any chance you wrote them down on a paper, go now and
revise them. Or try to memorize them.

I bet you would see the TWO secrets that I am going to tell you now
in that list. Only thing is You don’t know how important they are.

After my 4 years of online presence I found these TWO secrets (rather
well known secrets) are most important for a business to thrive and
establish.

1. NUMBER ONE SECRET:

“Sell a product which has Demand.”

Have you heard of that? Sure you are. But people give least important
to this.

Your product has demand in the market? Selling a product that has high
conversion rate is profitable than a less marketable product.

Look around you for such product. Check the bulletin boards, participate
in discussions, search affiliate products etc. Read the threads in the
bulletin boards and look what problems they are facing.

Get to know what people are searching for.

If you already own a product, then check these again:

*People really gonna need your product?

*What search terms they are using to find out your product or related
products?

*How your competitors making money?

*Are your product like products available freely on the web?

If you are not satisfied with any of the criteria about your product, try
to improve it than your competitors or change your product.

2. NUMBER TWO SECRET:

“Advertise Every day, if possible every hour and Minute”

No… I am not crazy. If you don’t spend atleast 70% of your alloted time,
no matter how much would that be, you don’t reach your niche in your target
market.

There are so many advertising methods: free or paid.

You don’t have to go with paid advertising everytime. There is lot of space
for free advertising too.

Some of the methods of advertising:

* Search engine optimization and submission

* Pay per click engines

* Ezine advertising (Free or paid)

* Write ezine articles and submit them to ezines and content sites

* Exchanging links with other websites

* Offline methods like business cards, pamplets etc.

* Building your opt-in list. Give away email courses through your autoresponder software.

Most important thing is ‘Persistent Advertsing’. One time keeping of an
ezine ad and expecting lot of sales… it is not going to happen. Average of
three for a click thru and average of seven exposures for a purchase will be
necessary as pioneers of internet marketing say… So try to stick on to the
same method for few days to see your ROI.

A good product with enough advertising will become a constant source of
income for you.

Lastly I want to make a comment on affiliate programs. People join in half
a dozen affiliate programms and keep dozens of banners on their webpages. They
will expect sales through this method. It’s never going to happen this way.

If you want a success in affiliate programms, stick to few of them which
come close to your interest and promote them as if they are your own products.

Relentless Internet Marketing

The internet is a fantastic place to promote your skills and accomplishments. You can pay a large sum of money by coming up with banner ad or pay per click plans to “get the word out” or you can go the budget way and market yourself smartly without spending nary a dime. I’ll leave the money plans for another article, instead let’s take a look at smart ways for you to promote you or your product online for little or no money!

Who said you have to have a marketing budget to promote yourself? Well, many companies do, but they are in the business to sell you something [namely, their marketing plan]. If you have the money to spend on marketing then go for it. If not, then you must examine cost effective ways to get your name out there. Here are some of my personal favorites:

Write Articles - Yes, just as I am writing this article in hope that you are reading it, you can do the same and submit your missives to leading article directories. A well written article of medium length [500-750 words] can go a long way in attracting interest by others. If you are new to the game, write the article and give it to a friend for their review and critique. Once you make your changes, find article directories you can join and start submitting. Make sure your resource box - the information at the end of the article - effectively pitches your product or you personally. Enjoy the resultant [and free!] links back to your site. Submit on a regular basis and you will reap the added traffic to your site resulting in more business for you.

Join Forums — I run several message board communities and with my two largest ones — the Corporate Flight Attendant Community and the Aviation Employment Board — I permit members to add a link within their signature to their personal or business website. Many of my threads are indexed by Google and picked up by people all over the world. Thus, the right person at the right time can click on a thread and see valuable links to other sites of interest. Not every forum manager permits this practice, however. I guess I am just a nick guy! [wink]

Post on Craig’s List — Craig Newmark started his “list” more than a decade ago to serve the San Francisco community. Years later his site is still going strong with well over one hundred cities across the globe featured. People from Atlanta to Auckland and from Zurich to Zimbabwe now have access to a site that allows them to pitch their products, display their resumes, or sell their very souls. The site is still free unless you are posting a job opportunity or real estate information under a few, select cities.

Your Website — You do have a website, right? Oddly in this day and age I am meeting people who do not. I hear all kinds of excuses: it is too expensive, too time consuming, too difficult, etc. Heck, if you are going to “play” the internet you must be properly equipped to participate. Quit making excusesfind a way to get online and do it today! At the very least your DSL account probably provides a page or two where you can design your personal page and upload it to the internet. Oh, you are still using dial up? Yikes!

As with any marketing campaign you must stay on top of it at all times. What I mean is this: however you choose to proceed, you must continually monitor and adjust your plan to maximize its effectiveness. No going on auto-pilot here: you must take charge of what you are doing to reap the rewards. If you do, you can gain a lot of exposure - and work - without expending a huge amount of money.
